CKD Flashcards
What is the action mechanism of statins?
Competitively inhibit HMG-Coa reductase
This increases the amount of LDL receptors (which clear LDL) and therefore increased hepatic uptake of LDL cholesterol from the blood
What is the side effect of statins?
Muscle toxicity
GI problems
What is the action mechanism of aspirin?
Inactivates COX = no prostaglandins
Reduced A2 thromboxane = platelets cannot aggregate
What is the side effects of aspirin?
What should be given to patients with PMH of peptic ulcers?
Haemorrhages
If PMH of peptic ulcers- give PPI
What is the action mechanism of trimethropin?
Why can we not use GFR levels in people taking trimethropin?
Decreases amount of protein made by competing for dihydrofolate reductase = tetrahydrofolic acid can’t be made which is needed for protein production
Inhibits secretion of creatinine
What is the action mechanism of gentamicin?
Binds to the bacterial 30s ribosomal subunit = mRNA translation disruption = dysfunctional proteins made
What is given for patients with proteinurea?
ACEi- relax efférent artériole
SGLT-2
Salt restriction
