CKD Flashcards

1
Q

What is the action mechanism of statins?

A

Competitively inhibit HMG-Coa reductase
This increases the amount of LDL receptors (which clear LDL) and therefore increased hepatic uptake of LDL cholesterol from the blood

Q

What is the action mechanism of trimethropin?
Why can we not use GFR levels in people taking trimethropin?

A

Decreases amount of protein made by competing for dihydrofolate reductase = tetrahydrofolic acid can’t be made which is needed for protein production

Inhibits secretion of creatinine
