What is patriotism?
Love and pride to the values or achievements of ones country, while still respecting others
What is cosmopolitanism?
All human beings, no matter where they live, belong to a single global community (opp of nationalism)
What is nationalism?
A strong feeling of superiority to a particular country, or nation
What is cultural shock?
Discomfort that people might feel when moving or experiencing a culture far from home
What is cultural imperialism?
Promoting one dominant culture over others (opp of multiculturanism) (imposing: force to like)
What is ethnocentrism?
Viewing your own culture, traditions, or way of life as better than others. (Evaluating: form an idea)
What is ethnic cleansing?
Forced removal of a specific ethnic group from a region
What is globalism?
The idea that the world is connected and interconnected
Globalization is the process of how this idea is applied in real ilfe
What is multiculturalism?
Coexistence of diverse cultures (opp of cultural imperialism)
What is secularism?
Keeping religion separate from government and public affairs
What are global cultures?
Parts of culture, like music, food, or ideas, that are shared and recognized all over the world.
What is culture?
Shared way of life, including beliefs, customs, and traditions, that shapes a group’s identity and behavior.
