Citric Acid Cycle Flashcards
1
Q
Where does CAC occur?
A
It occurs in the mitochondrial matrix.
2
Q
How is acetyl CoA made from pyruvate?
A
Through pyruvate dehydrogenase. It gets decarboxylated and oxidised before getting the CoA part added. The decarboxylation part releases two protons which can make more ATP.
3
Q
How is pyruvate dehydrogenase regulated?
A
It is regulated by its immediate products and by ATP depending on the needs of the cell.
4
Q
What are two other points of control?
A
Isocitrate dehydrogenase is allosterically controlled through ATP and NADH concentrations.
Alpha ketoglutarate dehydrogenase is also regulated by ATP and NADH and any excess switches it’s use to amino acids
