Cisco Routing and Switching Flashcards
What is the first level of the OSI model and define it
Physical - Defines the electrical, mechanical, procedural, and functional specifications for activating, maintaining, and deactivating the physical link between end systems
What is the second level of the OSI model
Data Link - Defines how data is formatted for transmission and how access to the physical media is controlled, provides error detection
What is the third level of the OSI model
Network - Defines data packet, select best paths to deliver data and provides logic addressing
What is the fourth level of the OSI model
Transport - Handle transportation issues between hosts, ensure data transport reliability, establish, maintain and terminates circuits, provide reliability through fault detection and recovery info flow control
What is the fifth level of the OSI model
Session - Establishes, manages, and terminates sessions between apps
What is the sixth level of the OSI model
Presentation - Ensures the info sent at the app layer is readable by receiving system
What is the seventh level of the OSI model
Application - Provides network services to the apps of the users, such as email, file transfer, and terminal emulation
What are the benefits of the OSI model?
- Reducing complexity
- Standardizing interfaces
- Facilitating modular engineering
- Ensuring interoperable technology
- Accelerating evolution
- Simplifying teaching and learning
What is encapsulation?
Information transmitted over a network undergoing a process of conversion at the sending and receiving end of the network
On which side of the communication does encapsulation happen?
On the sending side
On which side of the communication does de-encapsulation happen?
On the receiving side
What level of the OSI model do switches work on?
Layer 2
What is BSA - Basic Service Area?
The physical area of radio frequency coverage provided by an access point
