Cisco R and S 1.3 - Flashcards
Describe Unicast Communication
A one to one communication
Describe a Broadcast communication
When communications are between multiple computers where it goes from one sender to multiple receivers
Describe a multicast communication
A one to many communication but only if they are in a multicast group
What are the componenets of a Local Area network?
Mobile devices, PC end user workstations or Servers
What do switches do?
Provide workgroup connectivity between the hosts within a LAN segment
What OSI layer is a switch on?
Layer 2
What do routers do?
provide a means to interconnect workgroup segments of a LAN together
What do (WAP) do?
provide a means to wirelessly interconnect clients to the rest of the wired network.
What is a SSID?
Service set identifier- used to logically separate WLANs
What is the recommended overlap percentage of WAP (ESA) Extended service area
approximately 10 to 15 percent overlap to allow remote users to roam from one access point to another without losing RF connections
What is the recommended overlap for wireless voice networks?
an overlap of 15 to 20 percent is recommended.
What is a wireless repeater?
an access point that is not connected to the wired backbone and extends the coverage area of another access point.
What is the percentage overlap for a wireless repeater?
50% overlap between the access point on the backbone and the wireless repeater
Does a repeater have to be on the same channel as the access point connected to the wire LAN
yes
What is a wireless LAN controller?
a device that assumes a centralized role in the unified wireless network.
How many access points can be connected to a (WLC) Wireless Lan Controller?
up to 6000
Describe Unicast
a One to One Communication in which a frame is sent from a single host addressed to a single destination.
Describe Broadcast
a One to All Communication in which a frame is sent from one address to all other addresses.
Describe Multicast
a One to Many Communication in which a sender addresses a specific group of devices or clients
What is th predominate LAN protocol running at layers 1 and 2 of the OSI model?
Ethernet
How many meters can the reciever and sender on LAN be apart from each other?
100 meters
Describe collision domains
The network segments that share the same bandwidth
What layer of the OSI model is a switch on?
Layer 2
What is a switch?
divide a network into separate collision domains and reduce the number of devices that are competing for bandwidth
