Cirrhosis Flashcards
perisinusoidal space
where stellate cells are
where do stellate cills live
between sinusoid and hepatocyte
what do stellate cells store
VITAMIN A
what happens to ijured stellayte cells
secrete paracine factors that change the stellate cells
changed stellate cells
cant store vit a, proliferate, secrete tgf beta
effects of tgf beta
causes stellate cells to produce collagen
compression
sinusoids and centralv vein become compressed
constant injury effect
leads to constantly activated stellate cells leading to collagen ans then cirrhosis
pressure
pressure builds up > intrasinusoidal tension > portal hypertension
ascites
when the fluid is puushed into tissues
splenomegaly
fluid may back up into spleen
hepatorenal filure
blood is pushed aay from liver and so a shunt is created
leading to renal vasoconstriction
low bloodflow in kidneys
low filtration
hepatorenal failure
hepatic encephalopathy
liver cant detoxify so ammonia etc backs up and builds up in brain
asterexis
ammonia etc causing tremor
effect of cirrhosis on oestrogen
oestrogen builds up causing gynaecomastia, palmar erythema and spider angioma/ naevi
