Circulatory System & Respiration Flashcards
What is the difference between repiratory medium and respiratory surface?
Media = Water/Air Surface = Lungs/Gills
Draw and explain the hemoglobin disassociation curve.

How does carbon dioxide move from tissues to blood?
- CO2 diffuses from tissue to interstitial fluid to plasma (and most) to red blood cell
- Some CO2 attach to hemoglobin, most bind with H20 to create carbonic acid
- Carbonic acid breaks down into Hydrogen ions and Bicarbonate
- Hemoglobin takes up Hydrogen ions to prevent blood from getting too acidic
How does carbon dioxide move from blood to lungs?
Opposite to tissues -> blood
How does oxygen move from the lungs to blood to tissues?
O2 binds to hemoglobin, and carried to tissue area, where it diffuses through capillary walls to interstitial fluid to tissues.
Why are arterial walls (smooth muscle & connective tissue) thicker than those of veins?
-
Why do veins have valves but not arteries?
-
Draw figures of area, velocity, and pressure between arteries, veins and capillaries.
-
What is the sequence of blood clotting?
