Circulatory System (heart) Flashcards
What is the purpose of the heart to pump blood containing digested food to all parts and cells of the body?
So all parts and cells can get nutrients and energy for them to work.
How does digestion tie to the function of the circulatory system in delivering nutrients to the cells of the body?
The circulatory system needs the digestive system to get nutrients into the blood for circulation.
What blood is on the right side and where is it pumped to?
Blood on the right side is deoxygenated and is pumped to lungs.
What blood is on the left side and where is it pumped to?
Blood on the left side is oxygenated and is pumped to head and the rest of the body.
Description of blood flow through the heart using appropriate names.
- On the right side blood from the head and body enters through the superior and inferior vena cava going into the atrium. The blood goes through the a.v. valve and into the ventricle past the semi lunar and out through the pulmonary artery to the lungs.
- On the left side blood from the lungs enters through the pulmonary veins going into the atrium. The blood goes through the a.v. valve and into the ventricle past the semi lunar and out through the aorta to the head and body.
