circulatory system Flashcards
Gills
same as lungs– air or water comes in close contact with blood to diffuse o2 and co2 across concentration gradients
Capillaries
exchange blood good blood and used up non oxygenated blood between blood and tissues– also capillaries are the end of arteries
Right Atrium
gets blood from superior vena cava
PULMONARY viens
pulmonary veins deliver oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium
pulmoinary arteries
blood leaves the right ventricle via this and is then pumped to the lungs
left atruim
oxygenated blood enters this
left ventricle
gets blood from left atrium
pericardium
the membrane enclosing the heart
coronary arteries
transports oxygenated blood to the heart are the veins that wrap around the entire heart?
Found on the surface of the heart. (the veins)
The coronary artery delivers oxygenated blood to the heart. it leaves the aorta shorty after it exits the left ventricle.
ventricular septum
separates the ventricles / the lower heart from one another
right atrioventricular valve (tricuspid)
separate the atria
left atrioventricular valve (bicuspid)
separate the atria
chordae tendinae
connect the papillary muscles to the tricuspid valve and the bicuspid valve in the heart
aortic semilunar valve
on the left side of the heart– found at the base of the artieries. receive blood from ventricles. seperate heart chambers and prevent back flow of blood
pulmonary semilunar valve
on the right side of the heart– found at the base of the artieries. receive blood from ventricles. seperate heart chambers and prevent back flow of blood
ductus arteriosis
carries blood rich in oxygen
The fetus has three anatomical modifications:
ductus venous, foramen ovale, ductus arteriosis.
Fetal circulation bypasses the lungs by shunting any blood that reaches the right ventricle and pulmonary artery to the dorsal aorta via the ductus arteriosus.
ductus venosis
delivers blood directly to the liver and vena cava
The fetus has three anatomical modifications:
ductus venous, foramen ovale, ductus arteriosis.
Delivers some blood directly to the liver, and the rest of the blood to the caudal (aka) inferior) vena cava, which then delivers blood to the right atrium of the fetus.
foramen ovale
small openeing between the left and right atria closes at birth
sinoatrial node (SA node)
right atrium
atrioventricular node (AV node)
base of the atria
purkinje fibers
av node connected to these fibers that run to the bottom of the ventricles
electrocardiogram
the change of potential recored by the electrodes
arteries
cary blood away from the heart
veins
carry de oxygenaed blood towards the heart
