Circulatory System Flashcards
What is the main purpose of the system?
to transport substances around the body.
Three main parts of the circulatory system.
Blood, Heart, Blood vessels.
Red blood cells?
Carry oxygen on a protein called Hemoglobin
White blood cells?
fight infection
Platelets?
tiny cells that help in clotting
Plasma?
Liquid composed that mainly carries the blood cells along water
Blood
Is a type of. Connective tissue that circulates through the body. It consists of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, plasma.
Arteries
carry blood away from the heart blood forcecs the heart to work under very hard pressures. The arteries walls are very thick in order to withstand pressure.
Capillaires
Link arteries together and veins. The structure has a very thin wall and are very tiny. CO2, O2 and nutrients take place in the capillaires.
Veins
Carry blood toward the heart. other substances take place.
The heart
contains of cardiac muscles nerve and connective tissues. The tissues work together to make the heart beat and move blood around the body.
Blood flow
The right side of the heart collects deoxygenated blood from the body and it pumps to the lungs. Left side of the heart collects oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart.
