Circulatory System Flashcards
How much blood is there within the human body?
Six litres.
What are the components of blood?
- Plasma
- Red blood cells
- White blood cells
- Platelets
What is Plasma?
Plasma is a yellowish - clear liquid component of blood for the other components to sit within.
What is the purpose of plasma?
To allow the other cells to float with in the liquid.
What is a Red Blood cell?
Erythrocytes (RBCs) are disc-shaped cells with no nucleus. It has no nucleus, so it can hold more haemoglobin (made up of iron).
What is the purpose of Erythrocytes?
The haemoglobin that a red blood cell holds, can carry oxygen and carbon dioxide. There for red blood cells are used to carry the gasses the body needs for respiration and take out the waste products.
How does a red blood cell affect the colour of blood?
If a red blood cell is holding oxygen it turns the blood red, if it does not contain oxygen, but rather carbon dioxide it turns the blood blue.
