Cellular Respiration Flashcards
What is Cellular respiration?
Cellular Respiration is the process of breaking down glucose to produce ATP energy.
What is ATP energy? & What is its use?
ATP energy is formally known as Adenosine Triphosphate, and its purpose is to provide the essential energy for a cell to perform all its respective functions.
What types of organisms cellular respirate?
Both Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic organisms cellular respirate.
Where in the cell does cellular respiration take place?
Cellular respiration takes place in the mitochondria of the cell.
What are the two types of cellular respiration?
Aerobic respiration and Anaerobic respiration.
What is the difference between anaerobic and aerobic respiration?
Aerobic respiration uses oxygen, while anaerobic does not.
What are the products of anaerobic respiration?
- Small amounts of ATP energy
- Lactic Acid (stiffens muscles)
What are the products of aerobic respiration?
- Large amounts of ATP energy
- Water
- Carbon Dioxide
What is the chemical equation for anaerobic respiration?
C6H12O6 —-> ATP + LATIC ACID
What is the chemical equation for aerobic respiration?
C6H12O6 + 6O2 —-> 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP
