Circulatory System Flashcards
Other function of the circulatory system
Helps in the coagulation process
Regulates the body temperature
Assists the body in fighting diseases
What are the two main components of the Circulatory system?
Cardiovascular system
Lymphatic system
What are the four chambers of the heart?
Left and right atrium
Left and right ventricle
What surrounds the heart?
Pericardium
Epicardium
Covers the heart and it is attached to the pericardium
Myocardium
Pumps blood to the arteries by contracting (compressing)
Endocardium
Lines the valves and interior chambers
It receives deoxygenated blood from the body
Right atrium
Receives the blood from the right atrium and pumps into pulmonary artery
Right ventricle
Receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it into the left ventricle
Left atrium
Receives blood from the left atrium and pumps it into the aorta
Left ventricle
What does the Right AV valve AKA the Tricuspid valve do?
Closes as the right ventricle contracts that preventing blood from flowing back to the right atrium
What does the Left AV valve AKA the Bicuspid valve do?
Closes as the left ventricle contracts that preventing blood from flowing back to the left atrium
What does the Right semilunar valve AKA the Pulmonary/pulmonic valve do?
Closes when the right ventricle relaxes that preventing blood from flowing back to the right ventricle
What does the Left semilunar valve AKA the Aortic valve do?
It closes when the left ventricle relaxes preventing blood from flowing back to the left ventricle
What separates the right and left atria?
Interatrial septum
What separates the right and left ventricle?
Interventicular septum
Coronary Circulation
It receives blood supply thru the left and right coronary arteries, and coronary veins return the oxygen-depleted blood from the heart muscle back to the heart
What are the two main division of the Vascular System
Pulmonary circulation
Systematic circulation
What is the vascular system?
the loop which consists of a system of blood vessels through which blood is circulated to the rest of the body
What are the five structure of the vascular system
Arteries
Arterioles
Veins
Venules
Capillaries
What consists the blood level structure?
A. Layer
B. Lumen
C. Valves
What are the different layers of a blood vessels?
Tunica adventitia (outer connective tissue)
Tunica media (middle, muscle and elastic fiber)
Tunica intima (inner, endothelial cells)
