Circulatory System Flashcards
What is the role of the Circulatory system?
To deliver oxygen and nutrients to cells and takeaway wastes.
What are the main organs?
Lungs (pulmonary), heart (cardiovascular) and the vessels (arteries, capillaries and veins)
What is the role of the blood vessels?
To flow blood throughout your body
What separates the sides of the heart?
The septem
What seperates the aorta and the ventricles?
The valves
What are the valves?
The valves are found in the veins. They ensure blood flows in one direction. Arteries don’t have them because there is a lot of forces to pump the heart.
What are the two chambers in the heart?
The top two chambers are the aorta while the bottom two are the ventricles.
What does the aorta do?
The aorta takes blood to spread around the body. On the left side of the heart.
What does the ventricle do?
The ventricle carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs
What is the vena cava?
It carries deoxygenated blood from the lower half of the body to the right atrium of the heart.
What is the pulmonary vein?
Receives blood from the lungs
What is the heart made up of?
The myocardium, cardiac muscle
The right and left side do what?
The left side pumps blood to the rest of the body. The right side pumps blood to the lungs.
What is the arteray?
The arteries carry blood away from the heart. It consists of a thick outer wall, small lumen and thick layer of muscle.
What is the vein?
The vein carries blood back to the heart. It consists of a large lumen, thick layer of muscle and thick outer wall.
