Circulatory & Lymphatic Pathogens Flashcards
Describe bacterial sepsis/septic shock
- Characterized by vascular collapse and multi organ failure
- ”cytokine storm”
- altered organ perfusion
- C/S: fever, tachypnea, hypothermia
What are the primary bacteria involved in sepsis/septic shock?
Gram negative: Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas
Gram positive: Staph and Strep spp.
What are the pertinent diagnostic tests for hemolymphatic disease?
- CBC (plus blood smear)
- Serology (IFA, ELISA)
- Cultures (blood, tissue aspirates)
- +/ rads, chem, UA
