Circulatory and Respiratory Systems Flashcards
What are the 3 major functions of the circulatory system?
transporting collecting, maintaining body temp
What are the three parts of the circulatory system?
heart, blood vessels, blood
What are the four components that make up blood?
plasma RBC, WBC, platelets
What are the vessels that carry blood away from the heart called?
artery
What are the vessels that carry blood toward the heart called?
veins
What are the smallest and most numerous blood vessels in the body (where gas exchange occurs)?
capillaries
Memorize the pathway of blood flow
Superior vena cava/lower vena cava 1) right atrium etc.
Describe the pathway of an air molecule entering from the nose (nasal cavity)
nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchiole, alveoli (air sacs)
how does your nose filter the incoming air?
cilia (nose hairs)
What is the “voice box” called?
larynx
What is the function of epiglottis?
prevent food from entering trachea
What is the “windpipe”?
trachea
What muscle helps you to breathe?
diaphragm
Which component in blood is directly related to Hemophilia? Why?
Platelets. Unable to form blood clots
What do you call the “air sacs” where gas exchange take place? What two gases are involved in the process? It’s also covered in capillaries.
alveoli, oxygen & carbon
