Circulatory Flashcards
Responsible for maintaining colloidal osmotic pressure
Plasma
90% water, 8% protein, 1% salts, 0.5% lipids, 0.1% glucose
Plasma
Contain hemoglobin, passive circulation; immotile
Rbc/ erythrocytes
Facilitate oxygen delivery to the tissue
Hemoglobin
Fraction of blood occupied by rbc
Hematocrit
Cells that coat damaged blood vessel walls; plug small defects on blood vessels and active blood clotting cascade
Platelets/ thrombocytes
Fcns of the blood
-Transport oxygen and carbon dioxide throughout the body.
-defense of the body against infections and other foreign materials
•all wbc participate in defense
Process of production of mature blood cells from precursors
Hematopoiesis
Very rare, maintains own population, proliferation and differentiation
Formation of blood cells ( The stem cells)
Arterioles breakup into small blood vessels
Capillaries
Consists of parasites or adventitial cells
Tunica media
Formed by thin layer of collagen fiber
Tunica adventitia
Somatic, common type of capillary, endothelial cells forms a continuous lining of the capillary
Continuous capillary
Visceral, presence of tiny pores in the endothelial cells, greater permeability. Found in endocrine glands hahaha
Fenestrated capillary
Found in liver and hematopoietic organs like red bone marrow and spleen. Thin walled tortuous blood vessels having irregular lumen. Phagocytic cells are found.
Sinusoidal capillary
