Circulatoey System Flashcards
Endocardium
Smooth layer of cells that lines inside of blood vessels
Myocardium
Muscular middle layer of tissue around the heart
Pericardium
Double layered membrane covers outside of the heart
Septum
Muscular wall-> separates heart into a right and left side
Right atrium
Gets blood as it returns from the body cells
Right ventricle
Gets blood from right atrium and pumps blood into the pulmonary artery
Pulmonary artery
Carries blood to lungs from oxygen
Left atrium
Receives oxygenates blood from lungs
Left ventricle
Gets blood from left atrium and pumps blood into aorta for transport to the body cells
Tricuspid valve
Closes when right ventricle contracts, allowing blood to flow to lungs, preventing blood from flowing back into right atrium
Pulmonary valve
Is between right ventricle and pulmonary artery
Mitral valve
Between left atrium and left ventricle. Prevent blood from flowing back into the left atrium
Aortic valve
Between left ventricle and aorta. Largest. Prevents blood from going back to left ventricle
Diastole
Period of rest flowing by systole
Systole
Period of ventricular contraction
Areythrmias
Abnormal heart rhythms
Arteries
Carry blood away from heart
Capillaries
Have thin walls that contain one layer of cells
Veins
Blood vessels that carry blood back to the heart
Plasm
90% water. In blood
Erythrocytes
Red blood cells. Produced in red bone marrow
Leukocytes
White blood cells
Thrombocytes AKA platelets
Piece of cell
Anemia
Blood doesn’t have enough healthy RBC
Aneurysm
Weakened area in an artery
Atherosclerosis
Build up of fats, cholesterol, and other substances in and on the artery walls
Arteriosclerosis
Thickening ig arterial walls
CHF
Heart muscles do not beat adequately to supply the blood needs of the body
Embolus
Foreign substance circulating the blood stream. Blockage of blood vessels occurs
Hemophilia
Inherited disease. Mostly in males, very rarely women. Blood doesn’t clot normally
Hypertension
High blood pressure
Leukemia
Disease of cone marrow or lymph tissue
Myocardium infarction
Heart attacks. Supply to heart is cut off
Phlebitis
Information of a vein
Varicose veins
Swollen veins with lost elasticity and cause stasis, or decreased blood flow
