Circulation Flashcards
Pulmonary circulation
The movement of blood into and out of the lungs to pick up oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide
Systemic circulation
Movement of blood from the left side of the heart to all parts of the body where oxygen is used by cells and carbon dioxide is picked up from cellular respiration
Coronary pathway
Transports to and from the heart muscle (coronary arteries and veins)
Pathway of circulation
- Right atrium
- Right ventricle
- Pulmonary capillaries
- Left atrium
- Left ventricle
- Systemic capillaries
Valves
Valves open and close to let the blood flow through the heart, valves prevent backflow
Atrioventricular valve
Between atria and ventricles, open when atria contract, close when ventricles contract
Semilunar valve
Between ventricles and arteries, open when ventricles contract, close when atria contract
