Circularity and LCA Flashcards

1
Q

To what extent are the LCA assessment methods in different countries compatible? Discuss the significance of harmonization in this context.

A

LCA assessment methods in different countries can vary, making direct comparisons challenging.

Harmonization is significant to establish a common framework, ensuring consistency and comparability of LCA results globally. It facilitates accurate assessments, supports international collaboration, and enhances the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives by providing a standardized basis for evaluating environmental impacts across diverse contexts.

Q

Describe key strategies/actions for pursuing circularity in buildings.

A

Circularity is one of the challenges facing the construction sector. Sustainable and circular construction entails emissions and wastes reduction through the reuse and recycling of materials to achieve economic gains and save resources for future generations. To pursue circulation in buildings can both be concerning material, energy and economy.

Material circulation:
When constructing a building the material choice should be in the form that it could be reused again after deomlishment. For example steel, shish could be melted and used again → reproduced
One should also consider to remain parts of a building that is being renovated. For example if the frame works as i should and have the right bearing capacity there is no case where you cant reuse is. This even saves more energy than to melt and reproduce it.
Energy circularity:
On-site energy that are used to provide the building with energy
Economy circularity:
Buy materials from nearby productions to favor small companies
