Circular Motion and pendulums Flashcards
1
Q
What factors affect the amount of centripetal force required to make an object move in a circle?
A
- If the speed increases so must the centripetal force
- If the mass increases so must the centripetal force
- If the radius increases the centripetal force must decreases
2
Q
Why can an object moving in a circle be said to be accelerating?
A
Because the direction of the object is constantly changing, the velocity of the object is constantly changing, meaning that it is accelerating
3
Q
What is the time period of a pendulum?
A
> the time taken for it to swing from one side to the other AND BACK AGAIN
4
Q
What are two common examples of centripetal forces?
A
> tension
> friction
> gravity (less common)
