Circuits Flashcards
What is an ohmic conductor?
a resistor in which the current is directly proportional to the potential difference at a constant temperature
what is a filament lamp?
a light bulb and as the current through a filament lamp increases so does the temperature
What is a diode?
a component in which the current can only flow one way,and has very high resistance the opposite way that is intended
what is a thermimstor?
A thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance is strongly dependent on temperature,as the resistor of the thermistor decreases the temperature increases
What is an LDR?
An LDR is a Light Dependant Resistor is a component which is used to detect light levels and the resistance of the component will decrease as light intensity increases
components can be connected in a series or a ____
parallel
What does the power of a device depend on?
the potential difference across it and the current flowing through it.
what will a device with a higher potential difference use more of than a device with lower potential difference?
They will use more energy per second
What is the equation to work out power?
Power = potential differencex current
What is the equation to work out power using letters only?
P = VI
What type of current is supplied by cells and batteries
A direct current
Which current has a potential difference that is either positive or negative
The direct current
Which type of current is used is mains electricity
Alternating current
Which current has a potential difference that is alternating from positive to negative
The alternating current
What is potential difference
the difference in electric potential between two points
What voltage is the mains electricity in the UK
230V
What frequency is the UK mains electricity
50Hz
How many cables does the main supply use
