Circuits Flashcards
3 compulsory components in a circuit?
Power source, conductors pathway, energy user.
Equation for Power?
P= I x V.
(Brightness) More power=
Brighter.
(Brightness) Less power=
Dimmer.
(Brightness) Adding Light Bulb in series=
Lights get dimmer.
(Brightness) Adding Light Bulb in parallel=
Lights stay the same brightness.
What is Resistance?
Opposes the flow of the current.
What is Resistance measured in?
Ohms Ω.
(Resistance) Adding Light Bulb in series=
Resistance increases, current decreases.
(Resistance) Adding Light Bulb in parallel=
Resistance stays the same, current stays the same.
What is the difference between a series and parallel circuit.
Parallel circuit has more than one path and a series circuit only has one.
Definition of Current.
The rate of flow of charged particles (electrons).
What is current measured in?
Ammeter’s (A).
What is the symbol of current?
I.
What is the symbol of Resistance?
R.
What happens to the current in a series circuit?
The same at every point.
What happens to the current in a parallel circuit?
It gets split into the branches.
Definition of Voltage?
The amount of energy gained/lost across two points.
What is Voltage measured in?
Volts, Voltmeter (V).
What is the symbol of Voltage?
V.
What makes a conductor good?
Low resistance, free electrons.
