Circuit diagrams and resistance Flashcards
what is a parallel circuit
this is were a circuit is setup so that each electrical device has its own pathways
what is a complex circuit
it has a combination of in series and in parallel
what are resistors
materials that offer electric resistance
what is resistance
the ratio of the potential difference to the current for a components
the resistance formula
R=V/T
What are some of the factors that affect resistance
1.temperature of the wire
2.length of a wire
3.size of the potential difference across the ends of a wire
4.cross sectional area of the wire
5.resistivity
what are non-ohomic resistors
resistors that do not follow ohms law
the thicker the wire the lower the resistance
more current in thicker wires there fore the lower the resistance cause more electrons move in the thicker wires
how temperature affect resistance
as temperature RISES resistance fall of the metal
cause metal ions in the wire vibrate vibrating less ,
but when the temperature of rise the resistances increase cause ions in this wire vibrate rapidly electrons cant move easily
if length increases what happens to resistance
resistance increases
the large the resisitance
the harder it is for curent to flow through the object
