Explain how Light behaves like a wave
It can Reflect ,Refract and Diffract
why light is **not a mechanical **wave
It can travel through the vacuume of space. And does not require a Physical medium(particles) to propagate
Electromagnetic waves(light)
They are made up of a transverse elecrtic field wave oscillating in phase with a transverse magnetic field wave
The individual electric and magnetic field waves are perpendicular
it oscillates perpendicular to the veloctiy
Speed of this wave is constant i.e 3.00 x10^8 ms^-1
EM Waves are formed by accelerated Chareges
An accelerating charge creates an oscillating elecrtic fields and an oscillating magnetic field .
The oscillating fields propagate each other allowing them to move far away from the orignal source of the wave
Farfield :acts really far from the source chargge
EM Waves frequency
- The Frequency of the EM Wave matches the frequency of the oscillation of the source charge
- ThE EM wave will cause other charges to oscillate at the frequency of the wave
Trick to getting sources charges to oscillate at frequency needed is to Hook em up to an AC EMF
