circadian rythms Flashcards
what is a biological rythmn
distinct patterns of changes in body activity that conform to cyclical time periods
what are ciradian rythms
biological rythms that operate on a 24 hour scheldule
regulates number of bodily processes e.g sleep wake cycle and core body temp
sleep wake cycle
brains cicualrian clock regulates urine productionm cre body temp, brain wave activity etc
most important hormones affected by the cirvidan clock are melotonin, produced in pineal gland and chemically causes drowsiness and lowers body temp
cortisol(produced in adrenal gland used to form glucose or blood sugar
circaidan clock located in SCN (suprarachiasmatic nucleus) in the hypothalamus
SNC is a tiny pinhead sized area countainging thousands of neurons
