Ciliary Body Flashcards
Borders of the ciliary body
Think of the ciliary body as an upside down triangle
Apex of the ciliary body
Terminates at the ora serrata where the retina/choroid ends
Base of the ciliary body
One tip terminates at the scleral spur, the middle of the base joins the root of the iris. The other tip of the base borders the posterior chamber
What do the legs of the triangle of the ciliary body border?
One leg borders the sclera
One leg borders the posterior chamber
A ring like, or circular structure just behind the iris and surrounding the crystalline lens of the eye
Ciliary body
What are the two parts of the ciliary body?
- Pars Plicata
2. Pars Plana
The wider, anterior portion containing the ciliary processes
Pars plicata
What are the regions between the ciliary processes called
Valleys of Kuhnt
What attaches to the valley of Kuhnt
Zonular fibers
What do the zonular fibers that attach to the valleys of Kuhnt do
Change the lens shape
Where do the zonular fibers really attach
Attach at plana and plicata. The ones attached to plana are the ones that run up the valley of Kuhnt
Flatter region of the ciliary body
Pars plana
Where does the pars plana extend from
From the posterior of the pars plicata to the ora serrata
What are the forward pointing spices of the ora serrata
Dentate processes
The rounded portions of the ora serrata that lie between the teeth are called
Oral bays
Fibers that attach between the ciliary body and the crystalline lens.
Zonule fibers
How do the zonule fibers course
From the ciliary body to the lens
Where do the zonule fibers insert
- internal limiting membrane of the pars plana region and travel forward through the valleys between the ciliary processes
- internal limiting membrane of the valleys of hte pars plicata
What ar the layers of the ciliary body from superficial to deep
- Supraciliaris
- Ciliary muscle
- Ciliary stroma
- Ciliary epithelium
The outermost layer of the ciliary body adjacent to the sclera
Supraciliaris layer of the ciliary body
What is the hybrid zone between the ciliary body and the sclera
Supraciliaris
What kind of tissue is supraciliaris
Loose connective tissue
What is contained in the supraciliaris layer of the ciliary body
-melanocytes, fibroblasts, and collagen bands
What does the arrangement of the supraciliaris allow for ?
Accumulation of fluid
Composed of smooth muscle fibers oriented in longitudinal, radial, and circular directions
Ciliary muscle
