Cicero 1.2 Flashcards
O tempora, o mores!
Shame on the age and on its principles!
senatushaec intellegit, consul videt; hic tamen vivit.
The senate is aware of these things; the consul sees them; and yet this man lives.
Vivit? immo vero etiam in senatum venit, fitpublici consili particeps, notat et designat oculisad caedem unum quemque nostrum.
Lives! aye, he comes even into the senate. He takes a part in the public deliberations; he is watching and marking down and checking off for slaughter every individual among us.
nos autemfortes viri satis facere rei publicae videmur, siistius furorem ac tela vitamus.
And we, gallant men that we are, think that we are doing our duty to the republic if we keep out of the way of his frenzied attacks.
ad mortem te,Catilina, duci iussu consulis iam pridem oportebat,
You ought, O Catiline, long ago to have been led to execution by command of the consul.
in te conferri pestem4 quam tu innos5 omnis iam diu6 machinaris.
That destruction which you have been long plotting against us ought to have already fallen on your own head.
