What is the disease definition?
Chronic inflammation of the renal tubules and interstitium and can progress to end stage renal disease after months or years
What is the aetiology?
Medications
Toxins
Infections
Systemic diseases
Metabolic diseases
Miscellaneous
What are the clinical features?
Painless Hematuria
Pyuria
Oliguria
Polyuria
Colicky flank pain
Uremia
What is the diagnosis?
Lab studies - findings - blood test: increased BUN and creatinine, decreased potassium or increased potassium, anemia of CKD
Urine chemistries - sterile pyuria, proteinuria, Hematuria, RBC casts, WBC casts
Renal ultrasound - small kidneys with echogenicity
Renal biopsy - tubulointerstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy
What is the treatment?
Management of CKD, including treatment off underling cause
