Chronic pain Flashcards
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Encapsulates a heterogeneous group of illnesses all manifesting in joint inflammation
Persistent arthritis for more than 6 weeks in one or more joints, starting under the age of 16
JIA common signs and symptoms
Pain Swelling Limitation of motion Tenderness Pain with motion Joint warmth
JIA/Haemophilia MOVEMENT
Motion - pain, fear of pain, secondary MSK impairment
Ease - movements are restricted by pain, fear of pain and swelling and secondary stiffness and weakness due to lack of movement
JIA/Haemophilia SENSATION
Senses - hypersensitivity to touch and movement (proprioceptors) of involved joints due to pain and fear of pain
Engages - avoidance/dislike of joint movement (particularly extension) of involved joints and decreased weight bearing through involved joints
Adjusts - not neurologically impaired but pain and fear of pain will delay position adjustments
JIA - treatment principles
Monitor pain Restore joint mobility - gain and maintain active ROM in open and closed chain Fitness - CV, respiratory Muscle strength Endurance Postural Control
Haemophilia
X- linked bleeding disorder which results in a lack of or reduced activity of blood clotting factor VII or blood clotting factor IV
Haemophilia common signs and symptoms
Pain Swelling Limitation of motion Tenderness Pain with motion Joint warmth
Haemophilia - treatment principles
Replacement therapy - check clotting factor level Restore joint mobility Muscle strength General fitness Endurance Postural Control
