What is chronic kidney dz?
A
- structural or functional abnormalities of the kidney w/ or w/o decreased GFR
- OR presence of GFR < 60 mL/min for 3 months w/ or w/o other signs of kidney damage

Signs and Sxs of Chronic Kidney Dz
A
- some pts remain asymptomatic
- fatigue, malaise, edema
- cardiac: HTN, HF, pericarditis, CAD
- GI: anorexia, N/V
- skin: pruritus, pallor
- seizures

What are some reversible causes of CKD?
A
- urinary obstruction
- toxic effects of meds (ACE, ARB, NSAID, aminoglycosides)

Management of CKD
A
-identify and tx HTN, proteinuria, glucose control

What are renal replacement options for CKD pts?
A
- hemodialysis: 3-4 hr/day, 3+ days/wk
- peritoneal dialysis: insert and remove fluid through peritoneum
- transplant
