What’s the 1st step of chromatography?
Draw a horizontal line across the paper near the bottom.
What’s step 2 of chromatography?
Place a dot of each colour on the line using a capillary tube.
What’s step 3 of chromatography?
Place the paper in a beaker so that the bottom of the paper is just in the water.
What’s step 4 of chromatography?
Use the ruler to measure the distance of each dot from the starting line and the distance the water has travelled.
What’s distillation?
A method of purifying liquids.
What happens in distillation with ink?
Ink consists of coloured substances dissolved in water. When the ink is boiled the water turns to steam and condenses in the test tube. The coloured substances remain in the flask.
What’s done in distillation to keep the reaction stable?
A few anti-bumping granules are placed in the flask to ensure smooth boiling.
