what were the main beliefs of the protestants?
~Sola Scriptura : The Bible is the ultimate authority on religious matters.
~Salvation is achieved solely through God’s grace, not by personal merit.
~Justification (being declared righteous before God) happens through faith in Jesus Christ alone.
~Priesthood of all believers: Every Christian has direct access to God and does not need an intermediary priest.
What is Christian Gnosticism?
~believed that material reality traps us all and that this reality was created by an evil God.
~humans can escape this by recognizing their divine spark and through jesus’s teachings.
What caused the transition into Christianity in Rome?
~decline of roman empire
~Emperor Constantine’s conversion
~anyone could adopt, regardless of regional or religious background.
What was Jesus’s relationship to Jewish law?
Turned them into more ethical than dutiful
What is a parable?
simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the Gospels.
Why did it take so long for Jesus’s gospel to be written down?
Early Christians expected Jesus to return very soon, so they didn’t feel the need to write down a detailed account of his life
What is Original Sin?
doctrine that states that all humans are born into a state of sin because of the fall of Adam and Eve
What is the book of revelations?
The Book of Revelation or Book of the Apocalypse is the final book of the New Testament

What is the doctrine of the Trinity?
God exists as one God in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit.
Two person; one nature doctrine:
Jesus has two complete natures: one fully human and one fully divine // these two natures are united in one person in the God-man. Jesus is not two persons
Justification through faith?
‘we cannot be justified before God by our own righteous obedience to the law but only by our faith in the satisfaction and merit of Christ on our behalf.’
What was the sail of indulgences?
Catholic practice in the Middle Ages in which people paid money to reduce or absolve their sins or release a loved one from purgatory
