Imminence of Judgement Day

A

“… our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed… Let us behave decently…clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 13:11-14)
Stressed the imminence of judgement day
Imminence of judgement day meant the importance of good deeds and following the golden rule was profound
Presented a way for adherents to integrate this into everyday life
Integration: good deeds and accepting and loving everyone as Jesus Christ did → decision-making of behaviour

A

SCRIPTURE: “There is neither Jew nor Gentile” (Galatians 3:28)
Eradicated need to follow strict Jewish laws to convert to Christianity
Diverse adherents were welcomed
decision-making ⇒ all people are welcomed and loved as the teaching of “love thy neighbour” is expressed
By following this golden rule of love, an adherent is able to integrate their faith into good deeds and everyday life → decision-making of behaviour

The ritual usually involves an element of water may it be, Aspersion, Affusion, Immersion or Submersion and anointing with oils which remains constant between denominations
SCRIPTURE: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19)

Q

Abortion

A

Christians believe that human life begins at the moment of conception: sacred gift from God
From the moment of conception, human life must be afforded the dignity and full protection given to all persons created in the image and likeness of God.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you” (Jer 1:5)
God created humankind in His image and likeness: Harming God through his creations
Stewardship: Goes against the protection of life
Human Dignity: Violation the dignity of the embryo
Human Freedom: A Denial of the embryo’s right to life.
ROMAN CATHOLIC AND ORTHODOX
VIEW: Strongest stance against abortion: Oppose it in ALL circumstances
ANGLICAN
VIEW: Permits abortion in specific situations = Situational Ethics
Stewardship: Mother’s life is in danger as a result of the pregnancy:
Denial of Human Freedom: Child was conceived through rape
The Anglican Church justifies its position on the basis that abortion under these circumstances is the lesser of two evils.

17

18
