Christian Beliefs Flashcards
What is the trinity?
God is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit
God is made up of 3 persons
There is only 1 God
What are 3 characteristics of God?
Omnipotent (all powerful)
Omniscient (all knowing)
Omnibenevolent (all loving)
What are two ways in which belief in creation by god influences Christians?
God created everything out of choice
God created the earth in 6 days + 1 day rest
The bible is the best source of information about the creation story
The story of creation in Genesis contains religious truth - “let their be light” and there was light
Bible is the word of god
What do Christians believe about the incarnation of Jesus?
Jesus is god in flesh form
Jesus was able to spread the Word of god for 30 years
Jesus was God incarnate which gave him authority
Why is the incarnation of Jesus important?
God is omnipotent and an overriding power so therefore only he had the ability to make Jesus incarnate in order to die to save others
Incarnation is the belief that Jesus was god in flesh form and is the Word so his actions and deeds are god’s
Why is the crucifixion of Jesus important to Christians?
It offers encouragement for Christians who are suffering
It is a story of God’s love and how much he sacrificed for us
It was essential for our salvation - Jesus’ death took the punishment for our sin and meant we could be reconciled with god
What is the resurrection of Jesus?
The belief that Jesus rose from the dead
Jesus died on the cross and Jesus’ body was nowhere to be found
Jesus is said to have risen on Easter Day
What is the significance of Jesus’ resurrection and ascension?
Shows god’s power over evil
Belief that accepting Jesus means there is no need to fear death
Assures god will forgive their sins if they follow teachings
Ascension shows Jesus is with god
Without resurrection there would be no Christianity faith
What is the ascension of Jesus?
The event 40 days after resurrection when Jesus returned to god in heaven
It can be interpreted and is based on faith just as the resurrection of Jesus is
What is sin?
Sin is an action/thought against god’s commands
This separates humans and god
ORIGINAL SIN = Adam and Eve disobeyed god in the garden of Eden and now all humans have an innate tendency to sin
“The wages of sin is death” - Romans 6:23
What is salvation?
Salvation is a fee gift from god (out of love)
Being saved from death, sin and evil
GRACE = we do not deserve it nor have we earned
“For it is by grace that you have been saved”
What is law?
Law = god’s commands
Important as a means of salvation
“Through the law we become conscious of our sin” - Romans3:20
Salvation is god’s greatest gift to humans (AGREE)
Salvation is for everyone - it’s free and eternal
Gives hope, comfort and purpose to believers
We messed up and don’t deserve it - god didn’t have to offer us salvation but he did
Salvation is god’s ultimate act of love (he gave us his only son)
Salvation is god’s greatest gift to humans (DISAGREE)
God created the world in which we live - this has a much greater impact in all humans
Individual miracles and revelations are a much greater gift
Not everyone believes in god so it won’t be considered to be a gift to everyone
Not everyone deserves salvation
