ChPter 9 - 12 Flashcards
What are the initial actions taken during IMC IF SINGLE SHIP
maintain constant heading unless turning to avoid known obstacles.
What are the procedures for inadvertent IMC entry
Upon encountering inadvertent IMC in Fort Campbell restricted airspace, initiate IMC procedures in accordance with the applicable ATM, and climb to minimum altitude of 3000 feet MSL.
What are the initial actions taken during IMC if in formation
proceed as briefed (maintain constant heading unless turning to avoid known obstacles) Altitude separation will be 500 feet with no aircraft below 3000 feet MSL and no aircraft above 6000 feet MSL
What is the transponder for VFR aircraft entering IMC in the reservation
Set transponder to squawk emergency 7700”; for formation flights only the lead aircraft will squawk
What does a AN/TPX-42A Interrogator do
sends out signals challenging all transponders on Mode 3A and Mode C altitude readout
sends a signal back to the secondary radar antenna enabling the position, and altitude of aircraft Mode C equipped to be plotted on the radar scope.
The transponder
What is interrogated by AN/TPX-42A interrogator
All types of aircraft transponders and Mode C
What is the purpose of the decoder
enables the interrogator to decode up to 4096 discrete codes in Mode 3A.
What are the components of secondary radar
Interrogator
Transponder
Decoder
Interlacing
Text book description behind interlacing
The equipment is interlaced to receive Mode 3A and Mode C
What is DAIR
AN/TPX-42A Direct Altitude Identification Readout (DAIR).
How does then AN/TPX-42A operate
Line of sight
How will aircraft altitude display
line-of-sight targets within a 60 mile radius of the antenna.
How are aircraft altitudes filtered
Targets may be filtered out at selected altitudes or the range reduced to as low as 6 nautical miles.
Describe resolution as it pertains to presentation of radar
Since the data received by the antenna is sent from a transponder there is no problem with the resolution between targets. The alpha-numeric’s often overlap, and are not discernible at times. This can be usually be overcome by changing the direction of the stem on the alpha-numeric’s.
How to you correct ring around
By reducing the power or range
Define slant range
Targets are displayed at their slant range. All beacon control slashes are displaced in direct relationship to the ASR-9 main bang. In relationship to the main bang, each beacon control slash is 1/2 mile beyond the primary radar target.
What does the AN/TPX-42A interface with
ASR-9 Surveillance RADAR
PIDP programmable indicator data processor
PIDP
Programmable indicator data processor
Provides a data block on the radar indicator that correlates with MEMPHIS center ARTS, passes the flight plans and off-times and makes automated hand offs
PIDP
What happens if weather data on the ASR 9 is reported as questionable or erroneous
SL/CIC SHALL verify digitized radar information by the best means available (NEXRAD PIREP Tower personnel, FSS)
What codes are assigned by eagle
0201 through 0237 excluding 8 and 9s
What are the procedures of eagle requires additional codes
1 Eagle radio will advise ARAC additional codes are needed
2 first make the request with ARAC FOR THE CODES
3 if unable, will receive codes from Memphis center (ZME) computer
Where will the codes from ZME print out to
ARAC printer HOP 01
Will only appear in Eagles arrival departure list not ARAC
Call sign
Squawk
What codes are assigned to ARAC
0240 through 0277
What is the emergency code
7700
