Chpt 22 - Electromotive Force and Potential Difference Flashcards
1
Q
What is potential difference (p.d)?
A
(between two points) in a circuit is the energy lost by one coulomb as it moves from one point to another.
–>unit = Joule per coulomb (J C^-1) or volt (V)
2
Q
What is a voltmeter?
A
Used to measure potential difference
Always connected in parallel with the part of the circuit across which the p.d is to be measured.
3
Q
What is an electromotive force (emf)?
A
A voltage when applied to a circuit
