Chpt 21 - Current and Charge Flashcards
What is Electric Current?
A flow of electric charge. (I)
—> Unit = Amps (A) = C / s
What are the effects of an Electric Current?
- Heating Effect
- Magnetic Effect
- Chemical Effect
What is Electric Charge?
The positive or negative charge on a particle. (Q)
—> Unit = Coulomb (C)
What is the charge on an electron ?
1.6 x 10^-19
Q = IT
Charge gone past = Steady current x Time
What is Conventional Current?
conventional current flows from positive to negative ( even though electrons flow in opposite direction).
What is Direct Current (d.c.)?
A current which flows in only one direction.
What is Alternating Current (a.c.)?
A current which constantly changes direction.
What is an Ammeter used for?
Measuring Direct Current.
What is a Galvanometer used for?
Measuring small amounts of current.
What is a series Circut?
A loop circut where current can only flow one way.
What is a Parallel Circut?
A loop within a loop, where current can flow multiple ways.
