Hypertrichosis vs Hirsutism

A

Hypertrichosis is an excessive growth of terminal hair in areas of the body that normally grow only villus hair (lower back, eyelids, abdomen), and not necessarily in the adult male, hair growth patterns.

Hirsutism is excessive hair growth on the face, chest, underarms, and groin, especially in women. Is caused by excessive male androgens in the blood. Hormone imbalance may be caused by stimulation of male androgens at puberty, medications, illness, and stress.
