Induction of labor is recommended when there is concern for the health of the mother or baby, for ex:
- Mother is approaching 2 weeks beyond her due date
- water has broken, but contractions have not begun
- Infection in the mother’s uterus
- Baby has stopped growing at the expected pace
- Not enough amniotic fluid surrounding the baby
- The placenta peels away, from inner wall of the uterus before delivery
- The mother has a medical condition, such as high blood pressure or diabetes
