explain body dysmorphic disorder
Body Dysmorphic Disorder – A disorder marked by excessive worry that some aspect of one’s physical appearance is defective. The perceived defect is imagined or greatly exaggerated. Also known as dysmorphophobia.
- think about their appearance 3-8 times a day
DSM-5 Checklist 1. Preoccupation with having one or more defects or flaws in physical appearance that are not observable or appear slight to others. 2. Performance of repetitive behaviors (ex. mirror checking) or mental acts (ex. comparison of one’s appearance to that of others) in response to concerns about appearance. 3. What is hoarding disorder
- Acquiring an excessive number of objects.
- Inability to part with those objects
- resulting in an excessive accumulation of items and possessions.
- perceived need to save items
What is OCD
Obsessions- Cognitive (thoughts, impulses,or ideas) that produce anxiety
- intrusive and reoccurring and persistent and uncontrollable
Compulsion- An action (behavior, ritual, thought) that reduces anxiety created by a obsession.
- at least one hr a day and cause clinically significant distress and impairment
- 1% in a given year
- gender ratio 1.5 for women

- symptoms include: re-experiencing the traumatic event, aviodance, reduced responsiveness, increased arousal, anxiety, and guilt
PTSD treatments
general goals: reduce specific symptoms, increase overall adjustment, use flooding and relaxation, use eye movement desenitization, and reprocessing (EMDR)
- psychological debriefing- 4 stage approach and evidence suggest it may be harmful
