How do Music Therapists obtain referrals for treatment?
Through a network of Allied Health Professionals, Self, Hospital Staff, Parents and Educators
What is the Assessment process? (RIOTI)
Review: chart, records, files - Interviews: client, family, staff - Observe: individual - Test: Test skills and abilities - Identify: strengths and areas of need
What are the domain of Music Therapy?
Cognition, Communication/Speech, Academic, Motor, Social, Emotional, and Music
What are treatment goals and objectives in Music Therapy?
Develop client-specific treatment foals and objectives. A Treatment goal is specific to ONE domain. An Objective is specific behavior and criteria. Both elements determine how to design a musical activity to best accomplish a goal.
What are different verbs used to describe a Goal?
To increase, improve, decrease or promote
What are Objectives?
Specific behavior to practice within a time frame
What is Music Intervention?
Music Intervention can include: receptive music therapy, re-creative music therapy, compositional music therapy. improvisational music therapy, an opportunity to practice the desired behavior, data tracking and collection. Always consider the material and environment.
What is Documentation and Data Collection for Music Therapy?
Chart notes of the session, track progress towards goals
What is Evaluation?
Review data to identify progress towards goals, adjust criteria in objectives as necessary
What is termination in Music Therapy?
Termination can occur due to the SU receiving the maximum benefits of MT, goals are met, SU is discharged from the facility, or SU does not benefit from MT
