Caregiver Competence
Anticipatory guidance - the provision of information to parents or children with the expected outcome being a change in parent or attitude and centers on professional knowledge and professional opinion
Participatory Guidance- invovles the “child” as an active learner in the process seeks common ground for understanding and the PT wants the instructions to carry over so that it becomes routine whatever he or she is teaching.
Making the parents understand what is going on and not to put them down but, make sure they understand what you are saying.
Caregiver Competence- how much they already about the child
PT Competency- must be able to be an active listener and understand everything that is going on with the child and feel confident to do so.
5 steps to the “home interview process”
- Begin interview with open ended questions
- map the caregiver enviroment and daily things the child can praticipate in .
- Provide families with questionaires and checklists to gather the demographic information from the family.
- set tbe stage for problem sloving discussions by enganging in active listening Get family to resolve problem on his or her own.
- Scan each specfic enviroment where the child and family spend the most of their time and get the child to be involved in each setting.
