the schachter-singer theory that to experince emotion one must be physically arounsed and cognitivvelty able to label arousal

Joy, interest-excitement-surprise, sadness, anger, disgust, contempt, fear, shame, and guilt.
Two dementions of emotions
Emotions vary on two dimensions: arousal (low or high) and valence (pleasant or unpleasant)
adaption level phenomenon
our tendency to form judgments relative to a neutral level defined by our prior experiences
relative deprivation
the perception that one is worse off relative to those with whom one compares oneself
stress
the process by which we perceive and respond to certain events called stressors
general adaptation syndrome
selye’s concept of the body’s adaptive response to stress in three phases-alarm, resistance, exhaustion
