Cholinergic Agonist Flashcards
Cholinergic agonist effects
Bradycardia, vasodilation, secretion, bronchoconstriction, miosis, voiding, sweating
Acetylcholine
Direct, non-selective, cholinergic agonist
DUMBBELSS: cholinergic agonist side effects
Diarrhea, urination, miosis, bronchospasm, bradycardia, excitation, lacrimation, secretion, salivation
Uses for cholinergic agonists
Ophthalmology, sjogrens disease, atonic ileus/bladder, myasthenia gravis, drug OD, reversal of NMJ blockade
Cyclospasm
Excess accommodation due to excessive ciliary m. Contraction
Drug of choice in glaucoma
Pilocarpine
Tx for glaucoma
Pilocarpine, echothiophate, timolol
Echothiophate
Irreversible AchE inhibitor, long lasting effects, used for glaucoma management
Carbachol
Non-selective cholinergic agonist, used to suppress IOP after cataract surgery
Sjogrens disease
AI disease with dry eyes, mouth, fatigue, joint pain, dysfunction with kidneys, GI, blood vessels, liver etc
Pilocarpine indications
Lowering IOP(DRUG OF CHOICE), glaucoma, sjogrens disease, miosis
Cevimeline
Non-selective muscarinic cholinergic agonist, TX of sjogrens
Selective muscarinic cholinergic agonists
Bethanechol, cevimeline, pilocarpine
Drugs for neurogenic bladder/ileus
Neostigmine, bethanechol
Drugs for Myasthenia Gravis
Edrophonium, neostigmine
Edrophonium
Diagnosis of myasthenia gravis, eval of MG treatment, reversal of NMJ blockage triggered by non depolarizing nic antagonists
Neostigmine
Reversible AchE inhibitor, paralytic ileus tx, MG long term management,
Treatment of anti cholinergic OD = hyperthermia, hallucinations
Physostigmine
Physostigmine
Reversal AchE inhibitor, more in CNS than neostigmine
Treatment of organophosphate poisoning = death, seizures, could be from echothiophate and organophosphate
Atropine, pralidoxime
