Amouple: 10mg of chlorphenamine maleate in 1ml
Tablet: 4mg of chlorphenamine maleate
Oral Solution: 2mg of chlorphenamine malate in 5ml
What type of drug is chlorphenamine?
Antihistamine
Chlorphenamine Indications
Symptomatic allergic reactions (not anaphylaxis - but causing distress)
Alleviating distressing cutaneous symptoms in anaphylaxis after emergency treatment and pt is stable
Chlorphenamine Action
Blocks the effect of histamine which is released during an allergic reaction
Chlorphenamine Contraindications
known hypersensitivity
Patient has been treated by monoamine oxidase inhibitors within 14 days
Chlorphenamine Cautions
pregnancy and breastfeeding
hypotension
epilepsy
glaucoma
severe liver disease
Chlorphenamine Side Effects
Sedation
Dry mouth
headache
blurred vision
urinary retention
psychomotor impairment
GI disturbance
Convulsions
Chlorphenamine Dosage 12+ IM
10mg in 1ml
Chlorphenamine Dosage 6-11 IM
5mg in 0.5ml
Chlorphenamine Dosage 0-5 IM
2.5mg in 0.25ml
What can small doses of chlorphenamine IM be diluted with?
Sodium Chloride 0.9%
