Aspirin Indications
Clinical or ECG evidence of MI or ischaemia
suspected TIA & symptoms fully resolved, patient is not going to hospital, patient referred to TIA pathway
Aspirin action
is an antiplatelet so reduces clot formation
analgesic, anti-pyretic and anti inflammatory
Aspirin Contraindications
known allergy
under 16
active gastrointestinal bleeding
Haemophilia
Severe hepatic failure with jaundice
Aspirin Cautions
Asthma
Pregnancy
Renal failure
moderate hepatic failure without jaundice
Gastro of duodenal ulcer
Current treatment with anticoagulants
Aspirin Side Effects
Increased risk of gastric bleeding
Wheezing in some asthmatics
