Chirality Applications Flashcards

1
Q

Rule dictating no of chiral centers (no of Chiral Cs) and no of stereoisomers (R and S configs (mirror images))

A

no stereoisomers = 2^n. n = no. of chiral centers

Q

Diastereomers Def

A

Not mirror images. Same configuration at 1 chiral C and different at another. Different effects on refracting life (angles are different). May not be different

Q

Applications of chirality

A

Different receptor interactions depending on which configuration interacts. 1 side may have more binding site exposed then the other. This typically results in only 1 config being therapeutically active (with some exceptions)

Q

Case study of therapuetic properties in enantiomers being harmful

A
