What was the perception of the Mongols by the various groups they interacted with? (Merchants, Muslims, etc)
Merchants like them bc they kept silk road safe, chinese dont like mongols bc they were battling over land, Mongols ended the golden age of islam muslims could never get back there lost glories.
Were the Mongols a great empire with lasting change or just a group of barbarians?
They were a mix of both because they did fight a lot and cause violence, Genghis Khan protected the silk road. They had barbaric methods but they had rules, religion, etc. Once they got land they developed a civilized empire.

Expanded China, caused the population to grow and the economy to recover. Built the Forbidden City, expanded the borders, formed alliances with southeastern asian countries, strong military, strong navy.
