  • China’s population is ageing - 22% of Shanghai’s residents are over 60 and this is expected to 34% by 2020. The economic costs of supporting them in old age will include expensive healthcare
  • China’s economy won’t have enough workers to keep it expanding
  • There won’t be enough people working to pay for the elderly
